Galaxy On5 Pie update: Android 8.1 Oreo OTA now rolling out in China

Galaxy On5 Oreo Update

Samsung doesn’t refresh its On5 series regularly this year, which makes us doubt how much Samsung cares for the On5 sets it has released so far. Would Samsung find time to share major Android Oreo and/or Android Pie love with users of the On5 series? Well, let’s see.

Apart from major Android OS updates, here, you will also find info about monthly security updates Samsung rolls out for the Galaxy On5 and On5 Pro, along with their firmware download links.

Galaxy On5 Oreo update: Eligibility and release date

Galaxy On5 SM-G550 Not expected —
Galaxy On5 Pro SM-G550FY Not expected —
Galaxy On5 2016 SM-G5510 Eligible Released on 31 October 2018 in China
Galaxy On5 2016 SM-G5520 Eligible Q4 2018

Samsung On5 sets are a budget range of smartphones, one that Samsung doesn’t care much when it comes to updates. Frankly, it was a surprise to see Samsung rolling out an Oreo 8.1 update for the On5 2016 (SM-G5510) model in China, so we expect a similar treat for model SM-G5520 as well. As for the other On5 handsets, there is no hope for Oreo.

Galaxy On5 Pie update

At the moment, there is no Galaxy On5 variant that is eligible for an update to Android 9 Pie. If and when Samsung refreshes this series, we will definitely update this section too.

  1. March security patch, that’s all I noticed.

    1. still no ability to use SD card as internal storage? Because this crappy phone is no good with just 8 gigs

      1. root your phone and use root essentials app to get adoptable storage.. so simple
