Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8+ 2018 launched with Infinity display and dual front cameras

Samsung has finally taken the wraps off the all-new Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8+ mid-range smartphones. No, these aren’t the successor to the original Galaxy A8, but instead, they are replacements for this year’s Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7.

Both of these phones feature an Infinity display as rumored, and also come with a Samsung first, dual selfie camera. The Infinity display on the phones aren’t anywhere as good as what you see on the flagship Galaxy S8 and Note 8, but they still support Gear VR.

They have an 18.5:9 aspect ratio and FullHD+ resolution, with the Galaxy A8 getting a 5.6-inch display, and the Galaxy A8+ getting a 6-inch screen. The top and bottom chins are also not as thin as what you’d find on the S8 series or the Note 8. The phones come with the Exynos 7885 processor, 4-6GB RAM, and 32-64GB of internal storage.

The dual selfie camera setup features a 16MP and an 8MP lens, with features such as Live Focus, Bokeh effect, and more. On the back, there’s a nice 16MP sensor with a f/1.7 aperture, which should let in more light and improve low-light photography. The phone gets digital video stabilization to reduce shakiness in videos and has a Hyperlapse mode as well.

Finally, the phones support Samsung Pay, USB Type-C fast charging, and are IP68 certified. The Galaxy A8 comes with a 3000mAh battery, while the A8+ has a 3500mAh cell. The fingerprint sensor is at the back, below the rear camera. Unfortunately, Samsung has included Android 7.1 Nougat software on the phones, so no Oreo on release.

Samsung Android Oreo update release date

Samsung did not reveal details about the pricing and availability, but we can expect those announcements at CES in January. We believe the phones would be priced around $500 and released in several regions including the US, UK, India, and more.
