It’s been a month since the first Samsung Galaxy Note 8 received Android Oreo. In fact, much of the attention seems to have turned to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, but if the latest developments are anything, it appears Samsung isn’t done with Note 8 Oreo update, yet.
A Redditor, J_storm96, has received a huge update on the Galaxy Note 8, weighing 650MB. This has happened on an Exynos-based unlocked Note 8 with model number SM-N950F and despite the huge size, there’s no Android 8.1 Oreo. Even more interesting is that there’s no April 2018 security patch after the update.
Oreo has been arriving on the Galaxy Note 8 with March 2018 security patch and while such a huge update would have at least bumped up the security patch if not the OS to 8.1, this one, which has version N950FXXU3CRCB, doesn’t make any noticeable changes, but it should have under-the-hood changes.
According to the changelog, the update improves the security of your device, brings improved stability and fixes bugs. In short, this is a system update.
Perhaps this is exactly what some Galaxy Note 8 users who have been having battery life issues and random restarts, among other problems, need. Make sure you grab the update once it is available on your device. It’s also worth noting that after every major OS upgrade, things can be unstable and with this update, Samsung is definitely brushing up the initial Oreo update for a better user experience.
