EE UK lights up mobile 5G in London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham, and Manchester

OnePlus 7 Pro 5G on EE UK

EE is the first UK carrier to switch on 5G network, with OnePlus 7 Pro 5G the first consumer-ready device available in the country. We knew this was coming after the much-hyped partnership with OnePlus was confirmed earlier this month.

Being the leading carrier in the country, EE has made sure it becomes the first to roll out 5G, a full month ahead of their closest rival on the 5G front, Vodafone UK. The latter will flip on its 5G switch on July 3.

Even though EE’s 5G network is available in London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham, and Manchester, not all parts of these cities are covered. Also, this is just the beginning of the rollout, with more cities expected to join the party later this year, among them Bristol, Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle, and Glasgow.

EE says 5G in congested areas will top 150Mbps but insists speeds of 1Gbps will still be in reach for some users.

In addition to OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, EE customers can also pick up the Galaxy S10 5G, LG V50 ThinQ, Oppo Reno 5G, and the HTC 5G Hub, among other 5G-ready gadgets, although their availability varies.
