Droid 2 specs and pics leaked

Motorola Droid 2

Only a couple of days before we met Droid 2, the successor of Motorola’s Droid in the leaked pic of its activation screen. Surely a glimpse of an activation screen is never enough for all craziness droid has built up and lived with, so it is time we get more pics. Thanks to Droid-Life, we have not only the pics, but a lot to discuss in specs too. Join the party!

Droid 2 also looks to head to Verizon and yes I know it contradicts the earlier post but its true now and you can spot the carriers logo on the device. Okay, the hardware is very similar to Droid and that’s why it is Droid 2, not Droid Xtreme, not Incredible, forget about Droid S, haha. It is not hard to notice that the golden D-Pad has lost its place to dedicated arrow keys. There are other tweaks that improves overall finishing and we hope little problems in using the keyboard of Droid are taken good care by improved buttons in the successor droid.

Now some fun facts. This is what Droid 2 dons:

  • 3.7 inch touch screen (same as Droid. Well, it is still cool, No?)
  • Android 2.1 (Surely, we want it to be 2.2 from the very first day)
  • 750 Mhz OMAP processor
  • Wi-Fi tethering (really need it these days)
  • Whopping 8GB internal memory like Samsung’s Galaxy S
  • 8GB SD Card pre-installed, now that’s 16GB of memory loaded on it, like the base model of iPhone 4
  • Updated Keyboard
  • 5MP camera, still
  • New version of Motoblur (hope it is improved dramatically to impress us, this time)

There is no HDMI port and in-vogue front facing camera. You might miss them, maybe badly.

Very particularly, the 750 Mhz processor left a big hole in fulfilling the expectations letting the missed features alone. But the word on street is the new processor is an OMAP 3630 one against OMAP 3430 we find in the predecessor. Predictions indicate a massive 80% improvement in graphics (watch the video here). Think of the improvement when we know that Droid still beats the like of Nexus One, Droid Incredible and EVO. Yes, still. So, after all, it is not that bad as its first impression. What do you think?

Let us know whether you think Droid 2 is enough in the current generation of smart phones powered by the 1Ghz Snapdragon processor and against its twin, Droid Xtreme. And is you thought it might be the 2 Ghz Android phone Moto is planning to launch in the year end, clearly you need some serious rethinking over it. Remember, year end show belongs to Nexus brand of Google. Right, although there is just one phone but possibilities are endless. Roll yourself in the comments.
