ASUS MeMO Pad ME172V tablet launching in India for Rs. 9,999, comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

ASUS is all set to enter the low-end tablet market in India with the MeMO Pad ME172V, a 7-inch tablet that runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, which the Taiwanese company is going to launch soon for a price of Rs. 9,999. The MeMO Pad will be the second low-cost Android tablet by a major manufacturer in India, after Acer launched the Acer Iconia B1 at Rs. 7,999 last month.

Unfortunately, anyone hoping the MeMO Pad may be a great alternative to the Nexus 7 (which is yet to be launched) will be sorely disappointed as the MeMO Pad is powered by a single-core VIA WM8950 processor clocked at 1GHz, a far cry from the quad-core Tegra chipset on the Nexus 7. It does have an accompanying Mali-400 GPU and 1080p video decoding support though, so it should do the job well enough, with “Project Butter” in Jelly Bean helping things along.

Other specs are more in line with the Nexus 7 however, with an LCD display of 1024 x 600 pixels resolution, 1GB RAM, 1 megapixel front camera with 720p video recording, and Wi-Fi connectivity. The 8GB of built-in storage is expandable via microSD cards of up to 32GB and 5GB of cloud storage via ASUS WebStorage, while the 4,270 mAh battery should provide adequate juice for the demands of the low-end hardware.

ASUS hasn’t exactly said when we’ll be able to grab a MeMO Pad ME172V from stores, but hopefully we’ll see it become available sometime soon. The tablet will be available in Pink, Grey and White colour variants.
