Android O 8.0 and Android P 9.0 updates sort of confirmed for HTC U11

HTC U11, the flagship smartphone from the company, hit the stands just a few days back rocking Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. And we already have official confirmation that the smartphone will receive not two (as is the norm) but three software updates. This means that HTC U11 is surely getting bumped up to Android O 8.0 and Android P 9.0, and may be even Android Q.

Trusted Reviews quoted Chailin Chang, president of smartphones and connected devices at HTC, as saying that the HTC U11 will receive ‘updates to the next two versions of Android’ adding that HTC ‘may extend support to the next three versions of Android’.

Now mostly the software update cycle for an Android device is 2 years which means that after making an entry into the market a smartphone gets its OS bumped up to a higher version twice in two years after which it stops receiving any software update.

So, HTC U11 getting bumped up to Android O and Android P is expected. But considering that HTC is mulling to stretch the software update for its flagship device to three years, we most probably might see an Android Q OS as well on U11. But then, Chang added that this ‘will depend on the hardware and software demands of the version […] and if it will bring value to the consumer’.
