Acer Iconia A500 gets Android 4.2 AOSP port [Video]

Ever since Google released the source code for Android 4.2, developers have no doubt been scrambling to make Android 4.2 ROMs for various devices, in order to let the whole community benefit from the features of the latest version of Android instead of waiting for the devices’ manufacturer to update them.

If you own an Acer Iconia A500, you’ll be happy to know that XDA Recognized Developer randomblame has started work on porting Android 4.2 to the tablet, and has already been able to make a semi-working ROM, which he has released for the community to try out.

However, there are some major issues in the ROM at this point, which is expected since it is in its early stages. Right now, the camera, audio, and Bluetooth do not work, and the internal storage isn’t accessible as well. It is more of a proof of concept for now, and should only be tried out by experience ROM flashers, and issues should be ironed out over the next few days as testers provide feedback.

If you’re simply dying to try out Android 4.2 on your Iconia A500, head to the source page to get more details on the ROM and to download it. Remember, take a backup, then backup that backup, before treading into the dangerous waters of beta ROMs.
