Ultra-thin 6.2mm Android Phone in the making at ZTE

It is a game of “how thin can you go” that smartphone manufacturers are now playing, coming out with thinner and thinner devices in an attempt to outdo the other manufacturer. ZTE has announced that it has developed an Android smartphone that is only 6.2mm thick.

ZTE hasn’t given any other details about the device, though we can expect mid to high-end specs under the hood. But one does have to wonder – how long can you go on using a 6.2mm smartphone before usability starts to suffer? It is nice to have a smartphone that doesn’t create a huge bulge in your pockets, but it is equally nice to have an ergonomic device that has a good combination of weight, size and thickness, instead of being really thin one that is good for showing off to friends but otherwise a nuisance when in use.

Of course, it could be that with some good design, the 6.2mm thick ZTE smartphone might just be a device that is usable despite its thin body. But in the end, I wish manufacturers would just focus on making ergonomic devices instead of taking part in the “our smartphone is the thinnest” war. Nokia seems to be doing it with their Lumia phones, so I am sure other manufacturers can take a leaf out of their book.

Stay tuned for more info on the ZTE device as and when the company comes forward with some more details.
