Meet the Jelly phone, the smallest 4G smartphone running Android Nougat

The Jelly smartphone is not going to be your primary phone and it is not even marketed as one. This phone is a super portable backup phone, but with modern features.

Unihertz, a company based in China, is behind this small smartphone. The Jelly phone project is currently running on Kickstarter, but already reached its funding goal within an hour. The company is advertising this phone as the first mini-sized smartphone to feature 4G connectivity and run on Android 7.0 Nougat.

The phone features a 2.4-inch display, a quad-core 1.1GHz processor, 1 or 2GB of RAM, 8 or 16GB of internal storage, a microSD slot, an 8MP rear camera, a 2MP camera at the front, dual-SIM with 4G support, a headphone jack, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, Gyroscope, and a 950 mAh battery.

The Jelly phone comes in three colors, and a regular and Pro variant. The Jelly Pro has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, while the standard Jelly comes with 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM. And because it runs Android Nougat, you have access to the Play Store and all the apps you’d like.

If you’re interested in getting one, you can head over to the Kickstarter page and buy one for $69. The Pro model will cost you $95. The company has promised to ship the phones in August this year.

  1. Gone are the days when back up phones were simple, non-touch screen, feature phones that had the most minimum of functionalities and wouldn’t do much except for calls or SMS. Now with how smartphones have changed the way we live, we would want a back up phone to do more than just call or send messages. We would probably need email support as well as capability to run some online messaging apps and also support navigation apps like maps. This is doing just that and at a price of 69 dollars, it is done right.

  2. at first I though it’s a Tik-Tak bottle which by the is slightly bigger than this phone, it’s wonder how the company manage to fit in all this hardware in such a small body, well this is more of a Phablet era where 5″-5.5″ screens r considered as standard but it’s always good to have such experiment kinda phones around just to remind us how we have evolved from a handheld landline phone with only dialpad, transmitter and receiver to this fully wireless 4 inch phone which has a 2.4″ touch screen, it’s own battery, RAM, Processor, memory and even front and back cameras and can perform all the functions of a normal computer on that small body!! really great!!

  5. With phones getting bigger powerfull it makes sense how they managed to pack all that in there a decent backup phone or a starter phone for kids to study (if you prefer getting them a phone ) 🙂
