T-Mobile LG G4 TWRP Recoveryv2.8.7.0: Downloads and installation guide

Since LG G4’s barrier were broken off today and root access achieved, it was little wait for TWRP recovery to make its presence on the scene. And that moment has arrived now, and the first LG G4 to get TWRP recovery is model no. H811, a T-Mobile G4.

If you own a T-Mobile LG G4, the latest major version of TWRP recovery v2.8.7.0 is now available for your device. You can install it now, and the only thing you are gonna need is a root access. Find its link in step 1 of the guide below.

Once you have TWRP recovery on your T-Mobile G4, you can create nandroid backups — a life saver when things go wrong — and its been confirmed already that both the backing up and restoration is working perfect.

Another reason you want TWRP recovery is ability to flash custom ROMs and mods. And while there aren’t many custom ROMs for T-Mobile G4 to choose from, now that root access as been achieved and working TWRP available, there shall be numerous custom ROMs making their way.

How to install TWRP Recovery on T-Mobile LG G4

  • Don’t try this on any other LG G4 set with different model no. than above. Support for other G4 sets should arrive soon.
  • Don’t try this one any other device of LG or any other company!

Backup your Android. Backup important files stored on your device before proceeding with the steps below, so that in case something goes wrong you’ll have backup of all your important files.

Method 1: Using Flashify app

Step 1. Root your T-Mobile LG G4 first of all.

Step 2. Unlock bootloader of your LG G4. For this, simply enable OEM unlock on your device.

Step 3. Download the .img file of TWRP recovery from the downloads section above. Transfer the recovery file to phone if you download it on PC.

Step 4. Install Flashify android app, which would help you flash .img file of TWRP recovery on your LG G4 at T-Mobile.

Step 5. Open Flashify app, accept its warning, and let app look for root access. When it finds it, a pop-up will appear. Tap on Grant button to provide app root access.

Step 6. Now, tap on Recovery image and then on ‘choose a file’ option. Select the .img file of recovery that you copied to phone. Choose ‘Normal Android Way’ under the option ‘Pick up file as’.

Step 7. Tap on Yup to confirm your action, and begin flashing T-Mobile LG G4 TWRP recovery..

Step 8. Tap on Flash more to reach the main screen of the app.

Step 9. Now tap on 3-dot menu at top right and select Reboot recovery.

Step 10. You’ll enter TWRP recovery on your T-Mobile G4 soon enough. If you face any problem flashing recovery with Flashify app, then you can try the Rashr android app, it also helps you flash recovery in .img format to your rooted device.

Step 11. [Optional] It’s best if your take a nandroid backup right away. As we said earlier, it’s a lifesaver thing — if anything goes wrong, you can restore it from recovery mode and get device to working.

Alternate way: Method no. 2 (using Terminal emulator)

In case the above method doesn’t work for you, here is another method to install the recovery.

Step 1. Root your T-Mobile LG G4 first of all.

Step 2. Unlock bootloader of your LG G4. For this, simply enable OEM unlock on your device.

Step 3. Download the .img file of TWRP recovery from the downloads section above. Transfer the recovery file to phone if you download it on PC. Important! Don’t transfer the file inside any folder on internal storage. We need it on the very root folder of the storage. The parent folder of all sub-folders like Music, Android, DCIM, etc. is called Root folder. Okay. Take care of this, otherwise you’ll fail at step 7 below.

Step 4. Install Terminal Emulator android app, which would help you flash .img file of TWRP recovery on your LG G4 at T-Mobile.

Step 5. Open the terminal emulator app.

Step 6. You should see $ sign at the of first line. Type the command below and then hit enter key.

su

Step 7. App will seek for root access. You will get a pop-up, tap on its Grant button to provide app root access. Once you do that, the $ sign will convert be replaced by # sign, meaning you are superuser of your device now. Exactly what we need.

Step 8. Now we flash the TWRP recovery. Enter the following command. (Make sure you recovery’s .img file at the root folder of internal storage.)

dd if=/sdcard/twrp-2.8.7.0-h811.img of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/recovery

Step 9. Not run the following command to reboot into recovery mode, and check out the TWRP recovery v2.8.7.0 for your T-Mobile G4.

Step 10. You’ll enter TWRP recovery on your T-Mobile G4 soon enough. Right?
