Surprising: Apple’s market share falls short by only 1% to Android in the US

Android and Apple

Apple’s market in USA has some surprising revelations. Over the years we’ve only been seeing reports of Android eating out Apple’s market share. Reason for Android’s success? Bigger phones and more functional devices that Apple makes. But with the launch of iPhone 6 and 6 plus, apple set its foot in the game of bigger smartphones and that has proved surprisingly well for Apple. Its market share in the smartphone industry now only falls 1% short to Android in the US for Q4 2014.

This stat comes from analytic firm, Kantar Worldpanel. It claims Android’s market share in the US to be 48.4% in November 2014, which is 2.1% lower than the figure of Nov. 2013. On the other hand, Apple’s market share stands at 47.3% with 4.3% growth from previous year.

The report claims “The iPhone 6 was the best selling phone in the three months through November 2014, capturing 19% of smartphone sales”.

However, Kantar’s data is based upon sales figure of November 2014 only and two of the best Android devices of 2014 — Nexus 9 and Nexus 6 — were released in December. And Nexus 6’s huge screen size along with Android 5.0 lollipop easily beats the iPhone 6 Plus to pulp, let alone the 4.7-inch iPhone 6.

We believe the stats would be different for the current month and with all the new Android stuff announced CES 2015, Android’s smartphone market will only grow now, giving Apple’s market share a gap again in the coming months. Also, it should be noted that this will be the year of iPhone 6 (S), meaning there won’t be anything other than S for Speed.. and so, lesser sales.
