We know you’re holding your breath for the announcement of Gingerbread by Google’s Andy Rubin today at the event D:Dive Into mobile, but know that, your fav custom ROM, CyanogenMod has just been granted stability in its latest version CyanogenMod 6.1, made with android 2.2.1 (the current android version, maybe just for a day now!) at the core.
The stable CyanogenMod 6.1 is available for the following phones (links given for the relevant forums):
- Google Nexus One Stable Mod
- HTC Aria Stable Mod
- HTC Dream / HTC Magic Stable Mod
- HTC Desire CDMA Stable Mod
- HTC Desire GSM Stable Mod
- HTC Desire Z / G2 Stable Mod
- HTC Evo Stable Mod
- HTC Hero CDMA Stable Mod
- HTC Incredible Stable Mod
- HTC Slide Stable Mod
- Motorola Droid Stable Mod
- Geeksphone ONE Stable Mod
- z71 Variants Stable Mod
Yep, majority of handsets belong to HTC while the Motorola Droid also got there. But looks like the 5 million users of Samsung Galaxy S and family sets and around 1 million Galaxy Tab users would simply have to wait (well they are used too!) till they get a stable version to get what is believed to the best custom ROM, made using the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) files.
As for the improvements, there is a detailed list well worth drooling over. Find it at the official change log page.
