Sprint Galaxy Note 4 gets Android 5.1.1 update in N910PVPU4COG5 build, also patches Stagefright vulnerability

Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.1.1 Update

The Android 5.1 update is rolling our for Sprint Galaxy Note 4 users starting today, with build no. N910PVPU4COG5. While the improved Android version remains the primary reason for you to take the OTA update, there is another reason why this update is so crucial.

The OG5 update — sized cool 615 MB — also fixes the critical vulnerability in Android OS (thus, don’t blame Samsung) called Stagefright. It basically hacks your system when malicious code is sent through text messages, containing a link to audio or video file so crafted to cause the harm. It’s best to disable MMS messages to avoid this hack.

Other items for the Android 5.1 update changelog for Sprint Note 4 include darn general ones — you’re looking at ‘Device stability improvements’, ‘New and/or enhanced features’, and not to be left out, ‘Further improvements to performance’.

Obviously, the Android 5.1.1 update is why you would rejoice over OG5 update, and rightly so.

To update your Sprint Galaxy Note 4 to Android 5.1.1. now, try smashing the ‘Update now’ opiton in Settings > Software Update. The 5.1 OTA should be available to you, if not today then over the next few days for sure.

In case you have custom recovery like TWRP installed, then be sure to install the stock recovery back on your device, as that’s a must to be able to install OTA update. If it fails to install, then custom recovery is the first reason of it.

Enjoy your Lollipop 5.1 treat!

Btw, this comes after Samsung had already updated the Sprint Galaxy Note Edge to Android 5.1.1 with OFE firmware. While, any other Galaxy Note 4 than at Sprint are yet to receive Android 5.1.1 update, and that includes Note 4 sets at T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, US Cellular and other international and Canadian variants. Here’s the hoping the long ain’t that long!
