Snapdragon 845 gets listed on Qualcomm’s website

One of the most important content that ensures the success and ace of a smartphone is its internal hardware, in general, and its SoC, in particular. That is one of the reasons why Samsung has got an edge with its flagship phones Galaxy S8 and S8+ (these being the first to run Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor). But like all other aspects changing at a lightning speed in the tech world, even this latest chipset will no longer be the latest as its successor has been born and all set to be officially revealed. Yes, we are talking about Snapdragon 845 aka SDM845 which has been listed on Qualcomm’s website.

The listing is proof enough that Qualcomm has started working on it and as per reports the chip maker should soon make a comment on it soon. Although, we won’t be seeing any smartphone getting powered by it before 2018 as flying news has whispered in our ears that the high-end chipset will come only in 2018.

Qualcomm is using the 7nm process to build SDM845. Notably, the Snapdragon 835, which till now is Qualcomm’s most efficient and fastest chip, is built on the 10nm process.

Now as per reports from Taiwan, the trial production for 7nm process has already begun while the full fledged production is slated to commence next year. And as Samsung won the lottery by being the first smartphone maker to endow its phone with Snapdragon 835, it is likely that its next year flagship phone Galaxy S9 (work on which has already started BTW!) will also be one of first lucky recipients of Qualcomm’s next gen chip Snapdragon 845. This also rules out Apple iPhone 8, which is expected to release later this year, getting a a 7nm chip.
