Facebook has posted an update to their Facebook Messenger app in the Play Store that includes quite a few new features, especially the ability to now text your friends via SMS right through the app. Another convenient feature added is the ability to swipe left from anywhere in the app to see which friends are currently online.
Here’s the full list of changes in the update:
- Swipe left anywhere in the app to quickly see who’s available and send a message
- Add friends you message most to the top of your Favorites
- Try texting with Messenger (currently only available on some phones)
- New design for conversations
- Improved speed and reliability
- Bug fixes
The Facebook mobile team is taking a new approach to updates (detailed here by Christian Legnitto of Facebook), with a focus on getting new improvements and changes out to the users as soon as possible instead of waiting for major feature updates. With an update such as this, it seems that new approach is well underway.
