How to Set Emergency Information on Android 7.1.1 Nougat

Update: Looks like we just embarrassed ourselves. Emergency info feature has been available on Android since the first developer preview of Android N. This is NOT a new feature on Android 7.1.1 preview release.

Google released Android 7.1.1 developer preview earlier today for the Nexus 5X, 6P and Pixel C. The update brings a lot of new features to the still new Android Nougat release from the month of August.

Among all the new features on Android 7.1, one of our favorite is Emergency Information. You can now store critical details about you on your phone that anyone can use in case of an emergency. Below is a list of emergency information details that you can store with this new feature on your phone:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Blood type
  • Allergies
  • Medications
  • Organ donor
  • Medical notes

This information is viewable via Emergency phone dialer (another new feature) by anyone who has your phone in possession without unlocking the device. This enables first response team to know about you in case of emergency.

You can also store contacts under Emergency information to let anyone call your closed ones to let them know when you’re in trouble. And of course, this works even when your phone is locked.

How to Set Emergency Information on Android 7.1.1

  1. Go to Settings » Users » and select Emergency information.
  2. You’ll get a pop-up with information about Emergency information and its usage policy. Tap on CONTINUE.
  3. Fill in your Name, Address, Blood group and other health information.
  4. Select contacts from top-bar or slide left to add your closed ones contacts who should be called when you’re in trouble.
  5. Go back, your emergency information settings will be saved.

That’s all. If you’ve any questions about this do let us know in the comments section below.

  1. Is the emergency information backed up to Google? Or do I have to resubmit the information with every new phone?

  5. There is no “USERS” option on the settings menu. Not sure what you’re on about there but I’ve found no way to manually enter any of the emergency information options…
