The IFA is underway in Berlin, and as was previously hinted at numerous times in the past with many leaks of info, Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Note II, the successor to the original phablet but this time with a bigger 5.5-inch Super AMOLED HD display and even bigger 3100 mAh battery.
The Galaxy Note II will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box, powered by a 1.6 GHz Exynos quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM, and will feature the above mentioned Super AMOLED HD 5.5-inch display with a 1280×720 resolution, an 8 megapixel rear and 1.9 megapixel front camera, 16/32/64GB storage options with expandable microSD slot, and HSPA/LTE connectivity. That 3100 mAh battery should ensure long-lasting operation times as well.
It’s basically a bigger and faster Galaxy S3, but the exclusive S Pen and its added functionality are the main highlights here. Samsung has introduced the Air View feature, which lets you hover your S Pen over something to get a preview, for example an image or video in the Gallery. The Popup Note feature brings up a small note over whatever you may be using as soon as you take out the S Pen, while the Quick Command feature lets you swipe the S Pen on the screen to perform commands like sending an email or setting an alarm. The S Pen is also longer and more ergonomic in addition to being even more useful thanks to the custom apps and functionality Samsung has added.
Samsung didn’t announce the pricing, but the Galaxy Note II is all set to start shipping in Europe in October, with US and worldwide availability to come later on. So, what do you think? Excited and all ready to get the Galaxy Note II when it ships? Do let us know in the comments!
