Samsung planning a cheap quad-core phone with Jelly Bean and WVGA 480p display for Korea, codenamed Baffin?

Samsung seems to be working on a not so high-end quad-core powered phone for it’s home market in South Korea. Recent measurement results from GL benchmark tests, have shown an appearance of three unknown Samsung devices model-numbered SHV-E270S/SHV-E270K/SHV-E270L. All three are inferred to be carrier based variants of  same device. Specs inferred based on the benchmark results are as follows:

  • Android  4.1.1 Jelly Bean
  • 1. 4 GHz Exynos 4412 quad-core CPU
  • ARM Mali-400 GPU
  • WVGA Resolution – 480 x 800
  • Some physical navigation keys present

Device Fingerprint recorded indicates that the 3 devices, codenamed Baffin, are all LTE-enabled, and meant for the 3 Korean carriers – SK Telecom, KT and LG U+. Based on the low resolution display, it is likely that this could be a low cost LTE-enabled smartphone for the Korean market. What is puzzling though, is why Samsung would want to pack in a powerful quad-core processor and a dedicated GPU, into a low resolution display device.
