Samsung Nougat update: Nougat rolling out from Rogers in Canada

Update [May 04, 2017]: Rogers has now released Nougat for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge with the update seeding throughout Canada. At the same time, Samsung is rolling out the April security patch to a couple of older devices as versions G360GYUBU1BQD1 for the Galaxy Core Prime, G530FZXXS1BQD1 for the Grand Prime, G850FXXU2CQD2 for the Galaxy Alpha and build J200HXXU0AQC2 for the Galaxy J2. In addition to that, Samsung has also released software version G901FXXS1CQD6 for the Galaxy S5 Plus.

Update [April 04, 2017]: The Nougat roadmap for turkey was recently updated by Samsung to reveal a few changes. The 2016 Galaxy A3 (SM-A310F) which was originally planned to be updated by 24th April now has its update date pushed to the first week of May. As for the Galaxy A5 2016 (SM-A510F) and A7 2016 (SM-A710F), their Nougat release dates were only pushed a week forward from 22nd May to a tentative date between 22nd and 28th may.

But there’s good news too, as three variants of the Galaxy Tab S2 now have their Nougat release dates sooner than expected. The Tab S2 variants going by model number SM-T817, SM-T810 and SM-T710 are now expected to receive Nougat by next week. All the 2016 Galaxy A series and Tab S2 variants mentioned here, will also receive Always On Display support with the Nougat update.

Update [February 18, 2017]: AT&T and T-Mobile have released the Android Nougat update for their Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge variants. The update brings a whole lot of Nougat goodies, and also the latest security patch for the month of February 2017. The software version of the Nougat update for the AT&T S7 and S7 Edge is G930AUCU4BQA6 and G935AUCU4BQA6, while that for T-Mobile variants is G930TUVU4BQB1 and G935TUVU4BQB1.

Update [February 16, 2017]: Well, we got some good news about the Note 5 Nougat release. As we just spotted the Android 7.0 update for three Note 5 variants — AT&T, T-Mobile and Canada — receive certification for 7.0 Nougat build at WiFi Alliance, we are sure that the updates are under finalization stage at Samsung.

What’s more? They might have been shipped to respective carriers for testing even. Guess we would hear soon from others like Verizon and Sprint too, while as only Samsung needs to test the update as regards international variant, its update could be hitting us anytime. So, yes, if you own SM-N920C, you could see your Galaxy Note 5 gets the Nougat released by February end, or early March. We also expect the Galaxy S6 to receive Nougat update around the same time as Note 5.

ATT-Galaxy-Note-5-Android-7.0 T-Mobile-Galaxy-Note-5-Nougat

Update [January 31, 2017]: Galaxy S6 is expected to receive the Nougat update pretty soon, as a user manual for Android 7.0 update has already been uploaded at the Samsung Russia. This is our clue that the S6 Nougat OTA could be hitting devices very soon in Europe. After all, we saw something similar as regards Galaxy S7 Nougat too, whose 7.0 based user manual appeared days before the upgrade itself started rolling out. Although the manual makes mention of S6 Edge and S6 Edge Plus, we believe all three S6 sets are going to receive the update together, or at least the S6 and S6 Edge.

Update [January 26, 2017]: Samsung is now testing the Android 7.0 Nougat update for Galaxy Tab S2. The update will be coming to several of Galaxy Tab S2 variants including AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint in the US.

2017-01-26_10-22-57

Update [January 17, 2017]: Samsung has releases the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Nougat update to masses in Europe, which means that even non-beta users are receiving the Android 7.0 OTA update today. Looks like yesterday’s report about Nougat release in halt from China was all about Chinese variant, which is based on Qualcomm processor, because we are seeing it live for the Exynos based S7 sets Samsung sold in Europe and some parts of Asia. The build number of the Galaxy S7 Nougat update is G930FXXU1DPLT, while that for S7 Edge is G935FXXU1DPLT.

galaxy-s7-Nougat-europe-release

Update [January 16, 2017]: Bummer! Looks like due to issues unknown, Samsung has had to halt the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Nougat release for a while. Yep, we’re all sad to learn that, but we hope the bugs are fixed pretty soon to allow the company to perform the global release soon. All the while, Samsung has continued the release of beta Nougat update for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in China as today, users reported that build DAQ4 is showing up as an OTA.

Galaxy-S7-Nougat-Beta-7

Update [January 13, 2017]: Samsung has finally rolled out the official Android 7.0 Nougat build to Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users. The update comes with build number G935FXXU1DPLT and is currently rolling out to users who participated in the Galaxy beta program. For everyone else, Samsung will roll out the update on January 17th.

Galaxy-S7-Edge-Nougat-Update

Update [January 04, 2017]: Some cool guy on the web in what it seems to be, in possession of stable build of Samsung Nougat update for the Galaxy S7 Edge, teased a screenshot today that gives us build no. of the stable Samsung Nougat release (G935FXXU1DPLR). Should be G930FXXU1DPLR for the Galaxy S7 then. Of course, this could be edited easily from build.prop, but we don’t think of it as so. Here is the screenshot.

samsung-Nougat-release

Update [December 20, 2016]: Samsung has released the 4th iteration of its Nougat beta update, which is rolling out right now dubbed as software version G930FXXU1ZPLH and G935FXXU1ZPLH for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge respectively. The PLH update comes in at 280MB and removes the Notes app, while bug fixing and improving the device stability.

galaxy-s7-Nougat-beta-4

Update [November 10, 2016]: New leak today revealed the software version of the Android 7.0 Nougat update we would see in action on the US Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge sets at AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile. Yes, that’s right. Even though Samsung has only released the beta version of its Nougat update yet, only yesterday, the leak mountain is rolling down build no. of the supposed Android 7.0 build for the US carrier tied S7 and S7 Edge sets.

Here are the build no. of Nougat update for USA carriers. Galaxy S7: G930AUCU4ZPK4, G930TUVU4ZPK4, G930PVPU4ZPK4 and G930VVRU4ZPK4. Galaxy S7 Edge: G935AUCU4ZPK4, G935TUVU4ZPK4, G935PVPU4ZPK4 and G935VVRU4ZPK4.

Update [November 09, 2016]: Samsung is now delivering on its promise of November 9 release of its Android 7.0 Nougat beta update, as we are seeing users in Korea now receiving the Nougat beta as an OTA. The image below depicts just that, the Grace UX from Note 7 is also part of the Android 7.0 build you get in beta update.

galaxy-s7-Nougat-ota

Update [November 05, 2016]: We told you earlier about Samsung updating their Sidesync app to mention support for Android 7.0, and not Samsung has the standalone app in Galaxy beta program available for download, which allows you to participate for latest UX from Samsung, that comes along with Android 7.0 Nougat update. Yes, if you want Nougat as beta update, you can enroll into the program, but it makes sense only if you own a Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge, and are in UK, which is where the beta program is applicable.

Samsung hasn’t mentioned S7 sets BTW, but we know from experience that S series gets the major Android update before all other Samsung sets — FYI, Marshmallow released as beta on Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge first last year, in UK.

Update [October 25, 2016]: Samsung today updated its SideSync app, that is exclusive to its Galaxy devices only, to inform all those interested that the app now supports Android 7.0. Well, is Samsung has tested it, then it has to be on a Galaxy device because that’s what the app is meant to run on, which implies that the Nougat update is now running and available for testing on a Galaxy device internally. And that has to be either of Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, because we have already spotted the device Nougat builds, as mentioned here: Galaxy S7 | Galaxy S7 Edge.

Update [October 11, 2016]: We’re yet to hear any official word on Nougat release by Samsung, but already, next version of the OS, Android 7.1, is announced and will be coming as pre-installed on the Google Pixel and Pixel sets. In fact, some Android 7.1 apps from Pixel devices are already available for download, but while they are working on the Nexus 6P (on 7.0), same cannot be said about the Galaxy S6 and S7 because they are still on Android 6.0.1, and are topped by Samsung’s custom skin, TouchWiz UI.

In case you grew curious — after watching Google Pixel announcement — about when Samsung could be releasing the Android 7.1 update, well, know that it won’t be anytime soon as we’re yet to see company roll out the 7.0 update. If anything, Samsung could bring the Android 7.1 update to its Galaxy S6 and S7 on Q2 2017, along with perhaps Note 7 too. Q3 2017 should see 7.1 update arrive on Note 5, A series, On series, C series, etc. sets of Samsung, some of which could directly see the 7.1 update, skipping 7.0. If this happens, we’ll only be glad.

Original article: We don’t expect Samsung to lead the Android 7.0 Nougat rollout, something we think will be dominated by Motorola and HTC, but we do know that the Korean giant’s rockstar devices are on the front-foot of list that users demand the Nougat update for.

Quite easily, there are more Galaxy S7 and S6 users asking us for the 7.0’s release than the likes of HTC 10 and One M9 respectively, and the same goes for every other Android OEM’s flagship too, for the year for example, when compared to Galaxy S7.

So, here’s a quick breakdown of expected Nougat release for all popular Samsung devices, along with the eligibility of the device and the likelihood of it receiving the Nougat update unofficially as a custom ROM, mostly CM14.

Update [December 22, 2016]: Samsung should be about to release the Galaxy S7 stable Nougat update now, as December was the month it was set for launch. The beta testing program is closed for new user registration for long now, and its latest update also came few days ago, all pointing to quicker Galaxy S7 Android 7.0 release. The Galaxy S7 Edge would receive the 7.0 update along with S7 too.

We expect the Galaxy S6 Nougat update to arrive by the end of January 2017, as even the Galaxy A5 2016 edition is scheduled for Nougat at that time, but the carrier locked S6 variants in USA (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon and US Cellular) may have wait for long time.

Expect the S6 Edge+ Nougat to release around the same time as Note 5, and do click the link in the release column to know more about the update’s release timeline for US carriers like AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, US Cellular, and also in Canada.By now, you may already be knowing that mobile devices on Android get software version upgrades for around two years since their release. Which is why exactly the Galaxy S5 is no longer on the Nougat update train, while the likes of Galaxy S6 and S7 sets dominate the Samsung’s Android 7.0 offering among the S series.

We already know that testing for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Nougat has started at Samsung, so expecting the next month’s release isn’t a far fetched hoping by any means.

Galaxy Note 7 is expected the receive the Nougat update before other Note sets, naturally, and that may happen after around one month of the release of the Galaxy S7 7.0 build. FYI, there doesn’t exists a Galaxy Note 6 — Samsung jumped to Note 7 from Note 5, in case you didn’t know! — so, Note 5 isn’t that old as it now sounds thanks to Note 7.

The Nougat roadmap for Samsung Turkey has been updated to reveal that the release dates for the 2016 Galaxy A series have now been postponed to 24th April for the Galaxy A3 and the fourth week of May for the Galaxy A5 2016 and A7 2016.

Update [December 22, 2016]: Australian carrier Optus has confirmed the Galaxy A5 Nougat update today, even revealing that the update has reached them from Samsung for testing. Optus plans to finish the testing soon, and is targeting the Android 7.0 release for the Galaxy A5 2016 by the end of January 2017. We hope other regions and unlocked Galaxy A5 sets will be receiving the Nougat update too in January 2017.

Started back in 2014, it’s fair to say Galaxy A series has been a success for Samsung. Dubbing under the A heading, Samsung’s been able to properly separate devices from other of its own sets in similar range. Those A series devices that released in 2015 and 2016 can safely be expected the get Nougat treatment by the end of Q2 2017, though the update should start hitting in February 2017.

Samsung’s premium Galaxy C series, that touches the price segment right below the popular S series, is the one we like a lot, too. Samsung packs in impressive hardware with its C series sets, but is yet to release them in more market — they’re confined to China only for the time being. Chinese can expect to see Android 7.0 Nougat running on their Galaxy C5 and C6 by the end of Q1 2017, although the rollout should start as an OTA by the end of January 2017.

Now dropped by Samsung, company’s E series got little popularity of its own in India and other developing economies. Release back in early 2015, and although eligible, we won’t be surprised if Samsung drops Nougat support for the Galaxy E5 and E7. That’s unfair for those who bought, but again, we think those who bought an E series set wouldn’t care about the updates as much as we care. Really. That price segment is such, unless it belongs to online-only (or almost that!) catering OEMs like Xiaomi, Huawei, etc.

How Samsung performs with Galaxy J sets as regard Nougat update could have far reaching implications for the series’ popularity — good or bad — among the youth who are being targeted by Samsung with this series.

Samsung is promoting the likes of Galaxy J5 and J7 a lot, even hiring a well-paid actor in India to make these two devices extremely popular, so updating these two sets would be crucial for Samsung, and doing so on time, a winning card.

The owners of the original Galaxy Tab S2 will soon be able to get a taste of Nougat as it has been revealed to release between 7th and 14th April. The update will also bring Always On Display support which goes hand in hand with the AMOLED displays present on the tablets.

The tablets have lost their mojo clearly, as in the last few years, not only the launches have reduced by significant no., but even those available are’t eyed by consumers with great enthusiasm. Blame it on the very nature of them devices, or emergence of Android Wear watches (which are also fading a bit, BTW), right now, only Samsung has some decent offerings as regards Android tablets.

Those released within a year or year-and-half are expected to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update. And that too by Q2 2017. And that’s that.

For Tab A, it would take Samsung some great time. I think the Tab S2 would receive the 7.0 Nougat update before any other Samsung tablet. Once it’s out on Tab S2, you can expect Tab A to receive on within 1-2 months.

Thank you for answering my inquiry. I read earlier today that Samsung is getting quite aggressive in rolling out Nougat to their devices from 2015 and 2016. The link here –http://www.phonearena.com/news/Android-7.0-Nougat-update-roadmap-for-Galaxy-Note-5-S6-edge-and-others-posted-by-Samsung-Turkey_id91216 — clearly shows what is already in the pipeline. My SM-T580 Tab A 10.1 will indeed be receiving Nougat later this year.
