In an era of sustainable development, eco-friendly recycling is the best answer to discard unused products. Samsung too seems to follow suit. The Korean giant has decided to recycle discarded Galaxy Note 7 smartphones in an eco-friendly manner.
The official confirmation came in from a senior Samsung Electronics employee on August 18 last year who said, , “We have decided to treat Galaxy Note 7 in an environmentally friendly way.” The company expressed its willingness to recycle the product and not discard it in consideration of environmental problems.
However, there seems to be a different reason. According to ETnews, Samsung Electronics is trying to dispose of all of its products before the correct cause of Note 7 devices catching fire emerges.
The total number of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 to be retrieved is 4.3 million. Out of this, about 4 million units have been recovered till date. In Korea, about 50,000 out of a total of 950,000 units are yet to retrieved.
Samsung Electronics is considering two ways to recycle Galaxy Note 7- either to separate the major parts and then go for recycle or to replace the battery that has been identified as a cause of ignition, and then resell the handset at an affordable price in areas where flagship smartphone sales are not active.
The company is also in talks with with Greenpeace, an international environmental group, to find ways to handle the Galaxy Note 7 efficiently. Greenpeace has claimed to recycle the eco-friendly Galaxy Note 7. An official at Greenpeace said, “Samsung Electronics is going to demand Greenpeace’s alleged eco-friendly recycling plan for Galaxy Note 7.”
