Along with the good news today that Samsung has started rolling out the official Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to the Galaxy S3, there’s another piece of good news that indicates that Samsung might be turning a new leaf. In an email to The Verge, Samsung has listed the devices that will be updated to Android 4.1, and unlike the list for Android 4.0 which left out a huge number of devices, the number of devices getting an update to Jelly Bean is quite long, including an unknown device named Galaxy Music.
These are the devices that are slated to get an update to Android 4.1:
- Galaxy S II
- Galaxy Note
- Galaxy S Advance
- Galaxy S II LTE
- Galaxy Chat
- Galaxy Ace 2
- Galaxy Beam
- Galaxy Ace Plus
- Galaxy Mini 2
- Galaxy S Duos
- Galaxy Tab 2 7.0
- Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
- Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
- Galaxy Note 10.1
- Galaxy Music
Jelly Bean isn’t as major an update as Ice Cream Sandwich was and is probably the reason for so many devices to be getting the update, but it’s still nice to see that customers will not be left in the dust with not a single major Android update, as it happened back in 2011 when new devices that came with Android 2.3 were not given any major update (like the Galaxy W).
Samsung hasn’t given any time frame for when these devices will get the update, but it’s good to know that they will be getting the update some time or the other, include some low and mid-range devices as well (not a single mid/low-end Samsung got the Android 4.0 update). Galaxy S2 and Note owners will be particularly as confirmation for these devices was kind of sketchy previously.
