Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge wins best smartphone award at MWC 2017

Samsung’s Note fiasco debacle hasn’t stopped the Korean giant from winning accolades for its other flagship devices. Adding another feather to its cap, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge received the Best Smartphone award at Mobile World Congress 2017. The award was given yesterday by GSM Association, a trade body that represents over 500 carriers across the globe, during the tech event.

Samsung, in a press statement, said that the Galaxy S7 edge was awarded for its refined design, advanced camera and outstanding performance.

“We are honored to be recognized for our craftsmanship in design and innovation with the Galaxy S7 edge,” Junho Park, Vice President of Global Product Strategy, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics said.

“This award is a testament to our constant pursuit of excellence as we continue to exceed consumers’ expectations through revolutionary mobile technology,” he added.

Samsung launched Galaxy S7 Edge alongwith S7 last year ahead of the MWC 2016. The phone sports 5.5-inch QHD Always-On AMOLED display, octa-core Exynos 8890 chipset/ Snapdragon 820 processor clocked at 2.3 GHz, 4GB of RAM paired with 32GB/ 64GB internal storage. It features a 12MP Dual Pixel rear camera and 5MP selfie shooter. It is powered by a 3600mAh battery. The OS on board was Android v6.0 Marshmallow at the time of launch which has been bumped up to the latest Android 7.0 Nougat, for both locked and unlocked versions.
