Samsung Galaxy J3 2017 specs: Android 7.1.1, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, quad-core processor and 5.0″ HD TFT display

About two weeks back, we got word of the Galaxy J3 2017 clearing FCC. The device has now made it to TENAA giving as a clear picture of the specs it packs in. The smartphone has been roaming the rumor mill and visiting many certification agencies for about two months now.

We all know that the Galaxy J series is budget oriented. A new and welcome change to the device is that it will launch with Android 7.1.1 Nougat on board as compared to the 2016 Galaxy J3 which came with Lollipop when Marshmallow was out.

Though Android 7.1.1 is currently being tested by Samsung for its flagship sets like Galaxy S8 and S7, the TENAA listing reveals that the lower end J3 2017 will rock Android 7.1.1 Nougat. That’s great, if you ask us.

The screen on the other hand has taken a step backwards with the Galaxy J3 2017 featuring only a 5-inch 720p TFT display unlike its predecessor, which had an AMOLED panel. The battery on board hasn’t changed either and remains on the same 2600mAh juice pack. While, Samsung launched a Galaxy J3 Pro in India with a Super AMOLED panel, whose specs are based on the 2016 J3 model– it’s selling on Flipkart at a slightly discounted price of INR 7,990.

The Galaxy J3 2017 (carries the model no. of SM-J330x, against 2016 variants that begin with SM-J220x)is powered by a quad-core chipset clocked at 1.4GHz instead of the octa-core Snapdragon 430 SoC which was originally rumored for the device. The RAM on board is now doubled to 3GB from the 1.5GB present on the J3 2016. Storage too increases to a standard 32GB from the 8/16GB options from before. The smartphone also features a 13MP main shooter and a 5MP front facing camera.

Coming to the price of the device, we’re guessing that Samsung won’t price it in the same range as the 2016 J3, considering that the RAM and internal storage have been considerably bumped up. We have no official word on the release date yet, but Samsung may launch the J3 2017 by next month at the most.
