Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 (loganreltexx) gets unofficial Lineage OS 14.1

The Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 was a 2013 smartphone that set into the hearts of many entry level Android users. With a small 4-inch 480×800 resolution display, 1GB of RAM and running on the Broadcom BCM21664 chipset with a 1800mAh battery, the Galaxy Ace 3 presented a humble budget device.

The device never saw any further update from the build of Jelly Bean that it shipped with. Now, with unofficial Lineage OS 14.1 out for the Ace 3, you’ll be able to experience Android 7.1.1 Nougat after four generations.

Since it’s an unofficial build, the ROM may carry a few lingering bugs but those should be ironed out with future updates.

The Lineage OS team has now taken control of CyanogenMod and all ROMs available as of today are based off of the CyanogenMod source code. Official Lineage OS may feature Lineage’s own customizations and tweaks and should be out once the transition is complete.

Note: You must have a custom recovery like TWRP installed on your device to be able to install Lineage OS.

How to Install Lineage OS on Galaxy Ace 3

1. Download and transfer the Lineage OS ROM zip file and Gapps package zip file that you downloaded above to your Galaxy Ace 3 .
2. Boot your Galaxy Ace 3 into TWRP recovery.
3. Select Wipe from TWRP main menu and do a Swipe to Factory Reset on the bottom of screen.
4. Go back to TWRP main menu, tap on Install and select the Lineage OS .zip file that you transferred to your Galaxy Ace 3 in Step 1.
5. After selecting the .zip file, do Swipe to Confirm Flash on the bottom of screen to begin the custom ROM installation process. This may take some time.
6. Once your ROM is successfully flashed, you’ll see Wipe cache/dalvik option, select it and then do Swipe to wipe on bottom of screen.
7. Now flash the Nougat Gapps file similarly, just the way flashed the ROM file.
8. After flashing both Lineage OS and Gapps, reboot your Galaxy Ace 3 .
