Samsung Galaxy A3 and A5 2016 under testing for Android 7.0 Nougat update

Samsung will soon release Nougat for the 2016 Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 smartphones. Both devices have been spotted on GFXbench running Android 7.0 Nougat. So it’s possible that the OTA should start hitting the devices in a couple of weeks or so.

The 2016 Galaxy A5 features the Snapdragon 615, 2GB of RAM, a 5.2-inch AMOLED FHD Display and a 2900mAh battery. Back then these specifications were considered to be pretty good but today you could find them in budget devices.

Whereas the 2016 Galaxy A3 features in the lower end spectrum of the A series and is more of a cut down version of the A5. With a 4.7-inch HD display, Snapdragon 410, an awkward 1.5GB of RAM and a smaller 2300mAh battery it sure did look the underdog of the A series. Competing devices from other OEMs are sold at lower rates than the A3 and A5 leaving Samsung to depend on brand awareness to increase sales back then.

The Galaxy A series has now been upgraded to the current 2017 lineup and the devices feature significant performance improvements. It’s great to see that Samsung has not abandoned these smartphones considering that there are so many Galaxy devices coming out. But mum’s the word for Samsung as its gone and upped the security to prevent any more leaks, especially on the upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S8 which is expected to arrive by April this year.
