Samsung confirms Verizon Galaxy Note 2 Developer Edition!

Here’s some Christmas cheer for those of you who were planning to get a Galaxy Note 2 from Verizon. Samsung has just announced a Developer Edition of its next big thing, specially for Verizon Wireless.

A Developer Edition Note 2 would be identical to the regular consumer edition available from Verizon in all aspects, with the only difference being an unlocked bootloader, or at the very least, with an official method from Verizon to unlock the bootloader. Samsung has added a product page for the 16GB Developer Edition of the Galaxy Note 2 for Verizon on its website earlier today.

For the uninitiated, most modern day smartphones come with locked bootloaders, which are usually unlockable, especially with Samsung devices. Verizon as a carrier however, is notorious for its locked, encrypted bootloaders on its devices, and sells a separate version of popular devices, which are referred to as developer editions.

An unlocked bootloader lets you flash custom kernels or a custom recovery, which subsequently allows you to flash after-market firmware a.k.a Custom ROMs. Thus an unlocked bootloader on the Galaxy Note 2 Developer edition would allow you to play around with the possibilities that customized firmware offers on Android.

No word yet on pricing or availability, but we are pretty sure it should be out soon enough before Santa comes visiting.
