Samsung Captivate (modified Galaxy S) announced by AT&T

AT&T is known mainly (if not only) known for the iPhone that it’s been offering since the birth of Apple’s revolutionary device. No surprise here but there is a welcome addition in the form of an Android phone from Samsung. Guess what? It’s Galaxy S beautifully modified — not only in name but in design too — as Samsung Captivate, that’s been announced by AT&T. Needless to say, the way everyone is going crazy over Motorola Droid X headed to Verizon, AT&T and Samsung badly needed a phone that can really captivate people’s sight.Samsung Captivate announced by ATT

The much needed modification in the design has also been worked out, which really makes Captivate catch the eye. And AT&T is showing some seriousness with Android, finally. Maybe Apple working out a deal with Verizon (as rumored) broke At&T’s heart and a switch to strong Android lineup became apparent.

As for the specs, Captivate gets 1Ghz ‘Hummingbird’ processor powering the 4 inch WVGA Super AMOLED display that’s running Android 2.1 and features 5 megapixel camera that can record at 720p, a mammoth 16Gb of internal memory and lastly, 7.2 Mbps HSDPA compatibility.

So when it’s gonna be in your hands? Well it’s said to be ‘scheduled for release in coming months’ which spoils all the fun. Is it Apple binding AT&T, by threatening to file a case — you don’t need a reason for that — as it did against many other tech companies? Or the shortage of AMOLED screens? What do you wager with?

Whatever, in the coming months (July 19th to be exact), we have Droid X stealing everybody hearts and might root many vulnerable fellow phones out in the process. God only knows what job will be left for Samsung Captivate.
