Samsung begins Galaxy A8 Nougat update testing, shows up on GFXbench

Nougat update will soon be making its way to the Galaxy A8 2016 according to a recent GFXBench listing. The smartphone was released in October last year with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow on-board and has only seen incremental upgrades in the form of security patches.

The update to Nougat was originally rumored to come around this time, but that hasn’t happened yet. Hopefully, that changes soon, as we can see that Samsung is testing the A8 on Nougat now. Though, do note that it’s the Android 7.0 build that’s under testing, so in case you’re hoping that a delay this long would mean Samsung shipping Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) OTA already, well, you’re out of luck.

The Galaxy A8 is a device which sits in the premium tier of the Galaxy A series just below the flagships. Though it doesn’t have the firepower needed to be called a flagship, the devices in the A series segment have a premium quality with excellent design.

Although new Galaxy devices are being released with Android 7.0 Nougat on board, mid range and a couple of high-end devices from 2016 and before are still yet to receive the update. The Nougat update for the Galaxy A series devices ended up being pushed towards the second half of 2017 due to certain complications on Samsung’s part.

We hope Samsung gets things under control and push out Nougat to its premium segment, at least before Android O arrives. Talking about the next iteration of Android, we’ll probably get to see the update by the end of the year for the current generation flagships, but that’s just our hunch for now. What do you think Android O will be called?
