Samsung announces mass production of LPDDR3 2GB RAM for mobile devices

In the Samsung Mobile Solutions Forum 2012 in Taiwan today, Samsung announced that the 2GB low power double-data-rate 3 (LPDDR3) RAM for mobile devices has gone into mass production.

Being the industry’s first 2GB LPDDR3 RAM to enter mass production, the new DRAM is built on a 30nm manufacturing process, and with a data transfer speed of up to 1600 megabits per second (Mbps) per pin, it is 50 percent faster than the LPDDR2 RAM in use in mobile devices today.

With the smartphone world slowly and slowly inching towards 2GB RAM as the norm in high-end Android devices, this is good news and hopefully the adoption of faster 2GB RAM in phones will go at an even faster rate now.
