Samsung 1080p phone primed for 2013. Would it be the Galaxy S4 itself?

Full HD 1080p displays seem to be what tomorrow’s super-phones are headed towards. With the announcement of the HTC J Butterfly/HTC Deluxe, the Oppo Finder 5, and the rumoured Sony Odin and Yuga, 1080p resolution 400 PPI displays are no longer just a rumour, but very much a reality.

With big names like Sony and HTC already in the game, can one of the world’s largest smartphone makers, and more importantly display tech pioneers be left behind? Word is, that Samsung is already working on a 1080p FullHD display, which will likely use Samsung’s proprietary Super AMOLED+ technology. We’ve all seen the kind of vibrant colors and crisp blacks that Super AMOLED+ produces. However, at this point there is very little information on how big the display is, although sources indicate that Samsung also has a smartphone in the works which will utilize this new display, and will be launched in the first half of 2013.

That could mean that Samsung may be working on multiple devices which will use this new display tech. We’ve already heard, and it’s most likely to happen, that Google plans to announce a 10-inch tablet by Samsung during its October 29th event. The 10 incher from Samsung supposedly packs a 2560 x 1600 resolution display tuned to 300 PPI.  So it is clear that Samsung already has the technology; what is not clear though is when it will implement it in a phone device.

If these rumours are to be believed, and Samsung is indeed preparing a Full HD capable smartphone device for 2013, we could well be looking at the successor to the Samsung Galaxy S3. The Galaxy S3 would turn  one year old in May 2013, and that seems like a perfect time of the year for successors. Those are very large shoes to fill though, and the successor, which we presume would be called the Samsung Galaxy S4, better have both — jaw-dropping specs, and looks to match. And nothing short of a Full HD display.
