Root Sprint Note 4 on 5.1.1 OG5 build with BeastMode kernel

Cheers, people! The recently released Android 5.1.1 update for the Sprint Note 4 has now been successfully rooted, thanks to BeastMode kernel by freeza over at XDA.

As we said earlier, the root has been achieved with the help of a custom kernel with root injected and SELinux set to permissive mode rather than enforcing.

The BeastMode kernel is available as a recovery flashable zip that you can flash via TWRP recovery or any other custom recovery of your choice. An Odin flashable .tar file for the kernel hasn’t been released yet by the developer, but that shouldn’t be much trouble since TWRP recovery is working just fine on the 5.1.1 build.

You can grab the BeastMode kernel from the download link below, and flash it your Sprint Note 4 via TWRP without performing wipe of any sorts.

  2. Sprint Note 4 with N910PVPU4COG5 (5.1.1)
    Went through procss.
    Installed TWRP 2.8.5.0
Copied BeastModeStock1.0-N910P-OG5.zip to Document folder on my phone.
Booted into TWRP Recovery went to “Install” selected BeastModeStock1.0-N910P-OG5.zip, swiped to flash it.
    Received msgs:
    Checking for MD5 file
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found.
    Installing kernel…
    Updating partition details…
    …done

    rebooted
Root checker reports – not rooted
SuperSU gives me msg “No binary installed”
deleted SuperSU and reinstalled from play store – that didn’t work.

Doesn’t seem that BeastMode did anything.

Also every time I reboot I get the msg “Unfortunately KNOX has stopped.”

Some other web pages say not to install SuperSU from TWRP or you will boot into an unrecoverable bootloop.

    Any suggestions?

    1. thanks ANDROIDING STAFF that actually worked. downloaded it put it on my sd card and flashed it with twrp rebooted and im rooted now

    2. Lol. Beastmode kernel won’t root the stock ROM for you. You still have to flash super SU in recovery. The only time you’ll have an issue is if you’re on a stock kernel on Android 5.1.1. Once you flash a custom kernel with SE Linux set to permissive aka beastmode kernel, you are safe to flash super SU in recovery. You’re welcome.

  4. I installed beast mode, thank you.. Running fast and efficient. However I do not see my WiFi calling settings.. Is it not available for this kernel?

    1. No. It’s based off newer Canadian firmware and has no support for WiFi calling.
