Root OnePlus 2 with SuperSU zip and TWRP recovery

For most flagship devices, getting root access can be as painful as it can be. But for the flagship killer of 2016, it is almost a painless treat. You can get root access on OnePlus by simple flashing the latest SuperSU zip from TWRP recovery.

And the best part of rooting OnePlus 2 is you don’t lose the warranty on your device when you root it. OnePlus mentions this proudly on its support page that “The technical process of rooting or unlocking the bootloader does not void the warranty on OnePlus”.

OnePlus 2 root process is similar to that of Nexus devices. You first unlock the bootloader of your device, install the TWRP recovery and then flash the SuperSU zip. We have separate guides for all these process, you can just follow them in the links below:

Step 1: Unlock the bootloader

Unlocking the bootloader on your OnePlus 2 will allow you to flash a custom recovery on your device via Fastboot, which we’ll need when we install TWRP recovery in next step.

Step 2: Flash TWRP recovery

You’ll need a custom recovery to flash the SuperSU zip file to root your OnePlus 2 and for that we’ll need a custom recovery like TWRP. Follow the link below for information on installing TWRP recovery for OnePlus 2.

Step 3: Flash SuperSU zip

Now, finally after unlocking the bootloader and installing TWRP recovery, you can root your OnePlus 2 by flashing the SuperSU zip file on your OP2. Follow the link below for the latest SuperSU download link and instructions to flash the file via TWRP:

That’s all. Have fun with root access on your OnePlus 2.

  3. I used your guide and it works well. Perhaps one hint for future users: can you add for each page if your data will be wiped from your phone (I guess it only happens with UNLOCK). Most people would be holding back unlocking and rooting if they have to reinstall all the apps and information. Thanks for your help. I have saved your page for future use!

  4. Hello
    Two more suggestions:
    1. Could you add the keys combination on the phone that you need to hold (Volume up/Volume Down/Power)
    2. For TWRP flashing you might want to add that in some cases TWRP is immediately overwritten when you command FASTBOOT REBOOT. In my case I need to hold the VOLUME DOWN button when entering the command FASTBOOT REBOOT to enter TWRP recovery (when I didn’t I was redirect to the stock recovery every time). I found this fix on another website and it worked for me.
