How to Root Moto X Pure with SuperSU zip and TWRP Recovery

Motorola Moto X Pure received an unofficial build of TWRP recovery earlier today, and while TWRP is fun for many things, the first use for it on Moto X Pure would be to root the device.

Chainfire’s SuperSU zip has been so popular lately for rooting Android devices simply by flashing it via a custom recovery. And thankfully, it also works for Moto X Pure, as confirmed by several users over at xda.

However, if you had wished your Moto X Pure to have warranty along with root, then this method isn’t for you. Rooting your MXP via TWRP and SuperSU zip means unlocking the bootloader first, which voids warranty.

That said, rooting is pretty fun and opens a world of customization possibilities on your device. So in our humble opinion, it’s worth the risk of losing warranty.

Let’s get started..

Step 1: Unlock Bootloader

Unlocking the bootloader is the first step to get your Moto X Pure rooted as it allows you to flash a custom recovery like TWRP on your device.

The bootloader unlocking process is similar for all Motorola devices, so we’ve put together a general step-by-step guide for everyone’s use. Follow the link below:

Step 2: Install TWRP Recovery

Once bootloader is unlocked, install TWRP recovery on your Moto X Pure. This will allow you to flash custom .zip files like Custom ROMs, MODs, etc. However, for now, we’ll just use the recovery to flash SuperSU zip in the next step. Follow the link below for Moto X Pure TWRP recovery:

Step 3: Flash SuperSU zip

Finally, after unlocking the bootloader and installing TWRP on your Moto X Pure, you can now flash the SuperSU zip to get rooted. Follow the link below to get the latest SuperSU zip and a detailed step-by-step guide to flash it using TWRP.

That’s all. Your Moto X Pure should be rooted now. To verify root access, download and install a Root checker app from the Play Store.

  5. I used your steps for my Moto X Pure XT1575. After flashing the SU zip, it hangs in the Moto Boot Logo screen. Any thoughts?
