Although it took a while but an unofficial build of TWRP recovery is now available for the Huawei Mate 9. This enables a world of possibilities for the device, but most important of all, you can now root Mate 9 easily with either SuperSU or Magisk systemless interface.
Before you get started though, know that you must have an unlocked bootloader on your Mate 9. Thankfully, Huawei allows easy bootloader unlocking via the company’s official method. We’ve done a separate post on that, check it out at the link below:
Grab the unofficial TWRP recovery build by developer Tkkg1994 from the download link below. And follow the step-by-step instructions to get TWRP installed via Fastboot and then get root access either via SuperSU or Magisk.
- Unlock bootloader on your Huawei Mate 9 (→ step-by-step guide).
- Download TWRP recovery .img file from the link above and install it on your Mate 9 via Fastboot (→ step-by-step guide).
- Once you’ve TWRP recovery installed, take a full nandroid backup of your device using TWRP’s Backup option.
- Get root access: There are two ways you can root Huawei Mate 9. Read the descriptions of both carefully before you decide.
- SuperSU zip – If you just want root access and want it quick without workarounds to Safetynet to be able to use Android Pay or play Pokemon Go while rooted. Then getting root via SuperSU zip would serve the purpose. Follow the link below for detailed step-by-step guide.

hi.i do education for unloock bootloder ant twrp and success.but when go to twrp and want flash phh’s SuperUser .zip, i can not see any folders or zip files.only see many of folders by Long file names and obscure. in another site i read thant when flash twrp,i had to decrypted by flash a file. no please help me. what i do?why i cant see really folders in phones.thanks

/data is encrypted by default, and TWRP can’t handle Mate 9’s encryption yet, so you won’t be able to flash things from internal sdcard. Use an external SD.
