How to Root Galaxy Tab S2

We just covered the TWRP recovery for Galaxy Tab S2 variants T710 and T810, but if you thought you could flash SuperSU zip via TWRP and get root on your Tab S2, then you’d be damn wronged.

Samsung’s Android 5.1.1 firmware builds can’t be rooted with SuperSU zip flash via TWRP. And since Galaxy Tab S2 ships with Android 5.1.1 out of the box, the only way to get it rooted is by flashing a custom kernel with root baked-in and SELinux set to permissive mode instead of Lollipop’s default enforcing mode.

Thank to user ashyx, we already have a custom kernel with SELinux set to permissive for the Galaxy Tab S2 T710 and T810 variants.

Rooting via custom kernel is simple, you just have to flash the kernel’s .tar file via Odin. That’s it. Nothing more.

You can download the ashyx’s kernel for Galaxy Tab S2 from the xda link below. Make sure you download the kernel for your Tab S2 variant only (T710 or T810).

  1. Well guess what… The tab s2 only ships with 5.0.2. This article makes it harder to root the device than it actually is. I would know because I own one, anyone who wants to root this device… Please look elsewhere.
