How to Root Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge on Nougat build G935FXXU1DPLT

Update [January 12, 2017]: Samsung finally rolled out the Android 7.0 Nougat update stable release to Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users today. The update comes with build number G935FXXU1DPLT and is currently on the roll for users who participated in the beta program. As far as rooting is concerned, the method remains the same. All you need to do is install/flash TWRP recovery using Odin and then flash the SuperSU zip to get root access.

A few days back, Samsung released the much awaited Galaxy Beta Program for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users to beta test the upcoming Android 7.0 Nougat update from the Korean manufacturer.

Those of you who missed the news, to enter the Nougat beta program you need to download the Galaxy Beta Program app and register yourself into the program. It isn’t guaranteed though that all who register for the beta program will get the Nougat beta OTA update.

How to Root Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Nougat Update

Like Android Nougat releases for Nexuses and other devices, you can also root Samsung’s Nougat builds using either SuperSU or Magisk zip. Below’s a guide to root Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge via SuperSU.

  1. Download and transfer the SuperSU zip file from the download link above to your device’s storage.
  2. Boot your device into TWRP recovery.
  3. Tap on Install and select the SuperSU zip file that you transferred to your device in Step 1.
  4. After selecting the .zip file, do Swipe to Confirm Flash on the bottom of screen to begin the flashing process.
  5. Once SuperSU is flashed, you’ll get Reboot System option, select it.

Once booted, your Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge should be rooted. To verify root access, download/install any root checker app from the Play Store.

Happy Androiding!
