Philips to offer over 35 androidified TVs in the first quarter of 2015

Are you a die-hard android TV fan? Because if you are, Philips will have a whole sackful of toys for you to play with this very year. Yes sir, talking at the IFA Global Press Conference in Malta, Philips TV division, TP Vision discussed it’s plans for 2015. Apparently, Philips has been quietly working on the android-ifaction of its televisions with the result that about 80% of its upcoming models will sport the OS.

All in all, the company will have about 38 brand new smart TVs — Including the super immersive Ambilight ones with their integrated lighting systems — on offer in the first quarter alone and what’s more, many of them will be at the entry-level segment of the FHD devices thus making sure that the Android experience is not necessarily an expensive one. As if that wasn’t enough, game freaks will also get access to over 200 cloud games for free — courtesy a deal with EA games and GameLoft.

While this is not the first time Philips tries to integrate Android into its devices, this is the first time when the devices have been made to please and we have high hopes that unlike the previous attempts — which felt like scaled up smartphones — these devices will offer the truly smart experience.
