O2 UK will carry the OnePlus 5

OnePlus 5 O2 UK

OnePlus has been doing everything it can to transform itself into a big and trusted global brand: eliminating its invite system and offering handsets for all up-front, creating a community of fans (and keeping the app and website updated), letting users participate in the OnePlus Beta Program to experience new software UI and features before their mass release, and now the Chinese OEM is working on improving user experience and global customer support.

While the manufacturer is moving in the right direction, there is one thing that has kept the company back from noticeable success: its lack of carrier presence. After all, no matter how much the tech world tells us that unlocked handsets are “the way to go” when buying from an OEM, most customers still partner with carriers to finance their handsets and provide customer support over the life of their handset. Having Verizon compatibility out of the box for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T is great, but seeing the OnePlus 5 on sale at Verizon (or other carriers) would be even better.

Well, OnePlus and Verizon still don’t have an established partnership, but it is trying to find carrier partnerships worldwide that will get the OnePlus 5 (and future handsets) in stores where customers are in abundance. O2 UK has announced it will carry the OnePlus 5, with the carrier telling website visitors “The OnePlus 5 is coming” and leading them to its pre-order registration page.

The OnePlus 5 will sport a 5.5-inch, Super AMOLED panel with a Full HD (1920 x 1080p) resolution, the Snapdragon 835 SoC, 6GB/8GB of RAM, 64GB/128GB of UFS 2.1 storage, and a 3,300mAh battery, according to sources. Yes, there is a 13MP dual rear camera setup, with OnePlus working with mobile photography expert DxOMark to make its camera one of the best parts of the new handset. Android 7.1 Nougat will come pre-installed, with eligibility for Android O (8.0.0) as it arrives.

The OnePlus 5 will launch on June 20th for somewhere around €550 in the UK and Europe.
