Nexus 4 now supported in AOSP, Google quietly makes source available

When Google started pushing out the Android 4.2 source code to the AOSP repository, there was one glaring omission – the Nexus 4 wasn’t supported by AOSP and its code and binaries weren’t available, causing a few developers to cry out in disappointment.

The reasons for this were rumored to be licensing issues with Qualcomm, causing people to think that Qualcomm might not have been keen on providing source and binaries for their GSM stacks. But it seems those rumors were unfounded, as Google has quietly made the source code for the Nexus 4 available on AOSP and it can now be cloned by ROM developers looking to work their magic on the Nexus 4.

So rest assured, by the time you buy a Nexus 4 and get it in your hands, you’ll have no shortage of hacks and custom ROMs to try out on it. Hit the source link below to grab the code if you’re a developer looking to sync the Nexus 4 repository.

  1. Mako is in the AOSP, but we are still missing occam. So not quite out of the fire just yet, but definitely still better off.
