Nexus 4 drop test is in, lives to tell the tale

So we all know that the LG Nexus 4 is a phone that feels more like a glass slab was taken and turned into a smartphone, rather than a phone that uses glass for its build materials. There has been a lot of concern about how all that glass on the front and back of the phone will fare in the long run, with Google even offering a bumper to protect it, but if the drop test performed on the Nexus 4 is anything to go by, there’s not that much to be afraid of.

The Nexus 4 was dropped on to the pavement by some feisty folks, with the first drop being made at waist height. The Nexus 4 survived this fall pretty well, with no noticeable signs of cracks or damage. The next drop that was made from a height around 5 feet 5 inches, which wasn’t as merciful as the first one, as the device fell on its back and developed a shatter on the top right.

However, the display took no damage at all and even the back of the device escaped relatively unscathed considering the all glass build of the phone. This doesn’t mean that you should relax and care less about that Nexus 4 of yours, though, as a real and accidental fall may cause damages that may be a lot more severe and cause you to rue the incident for a long time to come.

Watch the drop test in all its scary glory in the video below. It’s in German, but we’re more interested in watching it than understanding what is being said anyway. Oh, and don’t forget to buy a case or bumper for your shiny Nexus 4, preferably both.
