New OTA Update for Samsung Galaxy S3 rolling out, probably fixes the Exynos vulnerability

Whoa Samsung, slow down and let other manufacturers catch up with you. It’s raining updates, both major and minor, all around for Samsung devices, and Samsung is now pushing out an OTA (over the air) update to the Galaxy S3 in the UK.

The update is 21.38MB in size and has the build number I9300XXLEA, but what changes or improvements it brings remains to be seen. One guess is that the update could be rolling out to fix the vulnerability in the Exynos chipset used in the Galaxy S2/S3/Note/Note 2, which was recently exploited by developers on the XDA forums to gain root access to the device by simply using an app. This vulnerability was widely reported and caused major concern over how evil beings could exploit it to do something sinister, so hopefully Samsung has closed the loophole in this OTA update.

Have any of you received this update yet? If yes, be sure to drop a comment if you notice anything different after the update completes. Oh, and don’t forget to try and manually force the update from the Settings » About phone » Software update menu.
