New HTC Android Phones to be Announced at MWC — HTC One S and HTC One X

Another day closer to MWC, and yet another news bit pops up, this time centering around two brand new Android phones that HTC is expected to announce at this year’s Mobile World Congress.

As per TheVerge, the HTC Endeavor or HTC Edge as it was alternatively known as, is likely to undergo some re-branding and get released as the HTC One X. Similarly, the HTC Ville is likely to follow the same pattern and be re-baptized as the HTC One S. It is also reported that in the full naming pattern, the “S” and the “X” will appear as superscripts read as HTC One S  and HTC One X . This could be the direction HTC is taking to standardize its handset naming strategy like Samsung’s Galaxy branding, which we think, if true, is a really good idea, considering there was not real categorization that existed in HTC’s device nomenclature.

The HTC One will sport a 4.7-inch display, a quad-core Tegra 3 chip, 1GB RAM and an 8 megapixel camera, running Android 4.0 ICS with HTC Sense 4.0 out-of-the-box. As regards the HTC One S, it will come with  a 4.3-inch display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 1GB RAM.

In addition to these handsets, which will be revealed at MWC 2012, there are also some reports of  HTC planning to launch a third handset, which might be called the HTC One V which is expected to  sport a 3.7″ display, a 1 GHz chip and running Ice Cream Sandwich.

We do love it when biggies like HTC come up with a variety of mid to high-end handsets. It just means that much more choice for the user. And we do like the new naming patterns that are being reported. Do you think these are far too many devices coming from HTC without any really distinguishing features (except for the quad-core chip that is)? Let us know what you think in comments below.
