New Galaxy S5 with 3GB RAM, WQHD Super AMOLED display and Advanced LTE announced by Samsung

This morning started with mixed feelings and we bear some good news and some bad news, however the bad news is only for the Samsung Galaxy S5 users while the good news is rest of all. If you’ve already bought a Samsung Galaxy S5 looking at the specs and cool features, you’re about to get real jealous as Samsung has announced the Galaxy S5 LTE-A variant with astonishing specifications, which is earlier in so many leaks in the name of Galaxy S5 prime. (However the Prime tag is dropped and is called Galaxy S5 LTE-A)

Hurrah!!! for others who are eagerly waiting for this most awaited variant of Galaxy S5 for a very long time. Samsung has now made this variant official and will be available from SK Telecom carrier in South Korea. This revamped variant will bear the name Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A and this will be the first device to feature download speeds upto 225 Mbps which is pretty awesome, however the real-life speeds will be known once the device enters the market.

The Galaxy S5 LTE-A is pretty much similar to the rumored Galaxy S5 Prime and it got all the goods that people expected from the premium variant of Galaxy S5. The device sports a 5.1 inch screen which is similar to the original Galaxy S5, however Samsung entered the Quad HD screens era by upgrading the 1080p Full HD display to a brilliant WQHD (2560×1440) Super AMOLED display. But as Samsung chooses to keep the screen size intact, the device offers a mind-boggling pixel density of 577 ppi which exceeds the pixel density of LG G3. (534 ppi for a 5.5 inch screen)

Samsung has crossed another milestone by successfully upgrading the Galaxy S5 LTE-A with the Snapdragon 805 processor which makes it the first device to run this processor. The Snapdragon 805 features four 2.5 GHz Krait 450 CPU cores and is coupled with the Adreno 420 GPU. Currently this is the only chipset that supports higher data rates which are greater than 150 Mbps, so it is apt to include the LTE-A support to this device.

The Galaxy S5 LTE-A rocked the memory department as well by providing 3 GB of RAM which is an improvement comparing to the 2 GB RAM of the earlier Galaxy S5 variants. The device provides 32 GB of internal storage, which can further be expanded using a microSD card with support up to 128 GB. The camera department however remains unchanged with a 16 MP rear camera and a 2 MP front-facing camera.

Other Galaxy S5 features like the fingerprint scanner and heart rate sensor along with the connectivity options like NFC, USB 3.0 and an IR sensor are retained in the Galaxy S5 LTE-A variant. Similarly the device comes with IP67 certification and provides water and dust resistant build. The software front is unchanged as well, with the same Android 4.4 KitKat with Magazine UX topping it, and provides features like Download Booster, Ultra Power Saving Mode, Kids Mode, S Health, and Private Mode.

However the only disappointment with this device is that Samsung chose to continue the same old 2,800 mAh battery, which in our opinion might or might not provide an impressive battery life as the earlier Galaxy S5 because of some battery sucking hardware like the high-resolution display, more powerful processor and LTE-A hardware. Samsung should have pushed the battery to atleast 3000-3500 mAh for a good battery life on this device

The Galaxy S5 LTE-A will be exclusive to South Korea upon launch, which is a bit of disappointment to those who are eagerly waiting for this device in their hands, but hopefully it may enter the global market in the following months. The device will be out this summer and comes in Charcoal Black, Shimmer White, Electric Blue, Copper Gold, Sweet Pink, and Glam Red colors which provides a good options for the users to select the color that fits their personality.

The Galaxy S5 LTE-A will be available later this week most probably the earlier supposed date of the launch, June 19th from SK Telecom carrier of South Korea at a price tag of 940,500 won which converts to $919 US dollars, and will later be released on carriers KT and LG U+.

These are Official Specifications of Galaxy S5 LTE-A provided by the Samsung in the Press release.
