Motorola outs its Ice Cream Sandwich Update Plan

Motorola hasn’t been at the forefront of providing timely updates to their Android devices, but thanks to Motorola’s Vice President Punit Soni, the company is trying to change the way they communicate with the customers as well as focus on the Android 4.0 update for their existing devices.

This has resulted in Motorola releasing the update plan for Ice Cream Sandwich updates to their various devices in different regions. Devices like the DROID Bionic, XOOM family edition, or the DROID XYBOARD are expected to get the updates in Q4 this year, while update plans for some devices like the Motorola Atrix 2 or the Photon 4G will be announced in the future.

Of course, this doesn’t change the fact that most devices will be getting the update an year after Android 4.0 came out, but clear communication with the customers is a good step at repairing Motorola’s poor update record. Head over to the Motorola Forums to check out the list of devices that will be getting Android 4.0 and also which will remain at Android 2.3. Just don’t expect to see any info about an update to Jelly Bean on that list, which will probably take a good part of the next year to reach most devices, and that too if they are slated to get it in the first place.

What’s your opinion? Are you going to be sticking to Motorola’s devices in the future in light of this announcement or is it too late now? Do sound off in the comments.

  1. Shame on Moto for taking so long. I have long-since ditched their default ROMs for aftermarket ones for my Droid Bionic and XOOM.

    1. Yes, and let’s see how long Motorola takes before they actually release these updates, since the next version of Android will probably get released before the end of the year, then Motorola devices will be 3 updates behind. Fingers crossed..

  3. Motorola might as well make phones just for Verizon. They get the best phone and updates anyway.
