Update [December 29, 2016]: Motorola has released an OTA update for the Moto Z over its Nougat update, as software version NPL25.86-17-3. The latest update is also based on the Android 7.0 build, so in case you thought of Android 7.1.1 update, that’s not this one. Although, the Android 7.1.1 is in the making too at Motorola, as it was seen being tested on Moto X Pure/Style.

Anyway, today’s update for the Moto Z fixes the low volume bug for notification sound Android Nougat, and is available as download too. Download the OTA here, which runs at around 540MB.

Update [December 15, 2016]: Telus has confirmed that their Moto Z is set for Android 7 update on December 19, only fours days from now, while Rogers had already let us know that they plan to release the Android Nougat update for their own Moto Z coming soon. Looks like come new year, all Moto Z sets in Canada would be rocking Android N.

Update [December 15, 2016]: As expected, the Moto Z Play is the next device to receive the Motorola Nougat update, as it just impressed the folks at WiFi certification to come out with flying colors and Android 7.0 installed. Watch out for the December-end or early-January release of the Z Play Android 7.0 update.

Update [December 08, 2016]: After the Nougat rollout for Moto Z Droid and Droid Force edition in USA at Verizon, Motorola has expanded its Android 7.0 update program for Indian users of Moto G4 Plus. Starting today, the G4 Plus, and possibly G4 too, in India will get an OTA notification regarding the update, which also adds swipe to shrink the screen feature to Moto Actions –while rest of the new features are all Nougat based. The Moto G4 is receiving the Nougat update as software version NPJ25.93-11.

Update [October 22, 2016]: Motorola has released the Android 7.0 Nougat update for its Moto G4 and G4 Plus in India. The update came only a day after the G4 Plus users in Brazil got the soak test of Nougat update, but the Indian one is official rollout. Also, in US, Moto Z Droid at Verizon is up for the Nougat soak test, so the full and final release shouldn’t be very far really. November 2016 is when we could see Moto Z and Moto G4 sets run Nougat world over.

Motorola just updated its software page to confirm the Nougat update for its portfolio of Android phones. And while learning about Moto Z and Moto G4 family sets was not really new — although it’s first official confirmation — it’s good to see Motorola confirm the Android 7.0 Nougat update for Moto X Style, its US variant X Pure, X Play, X Force, Droid Maxx 2, and Droid Turbo 2.

Earlier, we knew it rather unofficially that Motorola will be handing out Nougat to its Moto Z and Moto G4 sets before the end of this year. Note that these are all 2016’s releases, so we were left speculating as to whether and when Motorola plans to release the Nougat update for Moto X Style, known as Moto X Pure in US, and other deserving devices like X Force.

Thankfully, X Style/Pure and X Force have made the cut to Nougat, but Motorola has remained shy of providing us a release date.

Also, now the Moto Z and Moto G4 sets stand confirmed too, as they too are tipped for the Nougat release at Motorola’s own official software update page. In fact, they lead the line.

Though, Motorola hasn’t confirmed the 7.0 update for Moto G3. We still think the 3rd Gen of Moto G will be bestowed with Nougat kindness, but we have to wait until Motorola says it officially.

Motorola has updated its respective update pages in different countries, of which we don’t have the count but we have the screenshots for France and Germany.
