Motorola Moto Z Play now soak testing Android 7.0 Nougat

The Moto Z Play was already slated for the Nougat beta in China, with Motorola starting to accept beta testers a few weeks back. And ever since, the beta update has been inching closer to a final release date which should be around the end of January in Germany according to Motorola Deutschland.

Today, though, the Nougat beta update for Moto Z Play has started rolling out to users in China, as can be seen from the screenshot above. Seems the Chinese variant would be getting the stable Android 7.0 update by February end, if the soak test goes according to plan.

The Nougat beta update, or Soak test as Motorola calls it, will be rolled out as an OTA to select users enrolled in the program. Users will report issues and bugs in a private Motorola forum. Most of the Moto lineup have already received Nougat officially, including some devices from the Moto G4 and Moto Z family.

Now that the major decision making has been handed over to Lenovo, the fate of Motorola’s future seems to be a bit bleak. Taking Lenovo’s tampering Motorola into consideration, the Chinese variant of the Moto M has been found to be running on Lenovo’s Vibe UI which is a far step away from the stock legacy that Motorola was so proudly known for.

Maybe Lenovo will do good and support Motorola in its future growth. Come February 26 at MWC, we will get to know the state of both OEMs and what they have in store for us for 2017.
