Moto X (2nd Gen) gets Ambient Display from Nexus 6 with the Android 5.0 Lollipop Update

Moto X (2nd gen) Android 5.0 "Lollipop" Tour!

Motorola took us all by surprise today by rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA update to Moto X (2014) Pure Edition devices. The update was a preview test build for users in the Motorola soak test program. But a user leaked the OTA update on the XDA forums and now everyone has access to it.

The leaked OTA update is only meant for the Moto X 2014 Pure Edition XT1095 only, and we don’t have that device so we couldn’t test it ourselves. But thanks to Kellex over at Droid Life for doing a quick video overview of the ROM.

As expected, the Motorola Android 5.0 Lollipop update looks similar to Google’s flavor on the Nexus 6. But what we didn’t expected was Motorola bringing in the Ambient display mode from Nexus 6 to the Moto X.

Moto X already has Moto display, which is advanced than the Ambient display in a couple of ways but Ambient display isn’t anything less cool either. It has its own features like the grayscale view and a more graceful look than the Moto display. Anyway, enabling Ambient display on the Moto X disables the Moto display.

With at all the awesomeness Motorola is showering today, we’d love to expect the Android 5.0 Lollipop update soon for the 1st Gen. Moto X as well, and if Motorola is supercool and we’re super lucky, we might get the Ambient display too on the 1st Gen. Moto X.
