The Taiwanese semiconductor company MediaTek introduced a new chipset last month called the Helio P30 and this SoC is already being implemented by a handful of manufacturers like OPPO, Vivo, and Meizu, etc. However, now, the company is rumored to introduce a new processor named Helio P40. The Helio P40 is said to feature a hexacore design and will be built upon TSMC’s new 12nm process.
According to the new report, it appears that Meizu plans to power its upcoming devices with this new SoC. Also, Meizu is expected to unveil a few new devices in the first quarter of 2018, which would be perfect to launch this new chipset from MediaTek.
While the details about these new smartphones are scarce at this point, it appears that these devices will give a tough competition to the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 670 powered devices. For those of you who don’t know, Snapdragon 670 SoC is also fairly new and the devices powered by this SoC will also start appearing in the market by Q1 2018.
Also, in case you don’t know, recently Meizu reached a settlement with Qualcomm for using their processors. With that, Meizu’s VP Li Nan said that the company’s partnership will continue to coexist with Qualcomm, Samsung and MediaTek.
Coming back to the new smartphone from Meizu, other than the fact that it could be powered by a MediaTek SoC, we don’t have any other info just yet. However, expect it to be a solid mid-range offering from the company. And in case you are looking for a flagship device, they recently launched the new Meizu Pro 7, which is worth taking a look.
