Meizu S or Meizu E2 to release soon, clears 3C certification

Meizu hasn’t been much active this year. Other than a single M5s release last month, the Chinese OEM has remained inactive as far as smartphone launch is concerned. But that should change now. In fact, going by the appearance of Meizu devices on certification websites, we have reasons to conclude that it will be a busy year ahead for the company. Two new Meizu smartphones have cleared 3C certification.

The 3C certification site lists the Meizu phones as model numbers M714A and M714Y, which obviously are two variants of the same phone. And as ‘Y’ in Meizu phone model numbers usually is an indication that the device would run on YunOS, we can rule out the possibility of the currently 3C listed device being the upcoming flagship Meizu Pro 7.

In the past, a leak from China showed Meizu’s 2017 roadmap which is as follows:

Product Name                                                                                             Release Month
Meizu M5S                                                                                                              February
Meizu Pro 7 (Helio X30 SoC)                                                                                 June
Meizu S (Helio P25 SoC)                                                                                          July
Meizu MX7 (Helio P30 SoC)                                                                              September
Meizu M6 Note (Helio P20)                                                                                  October

Based on this release chart, all fingers point towards the listed device to be Meizu S with Helio P25 chipset on board. But this handset has been kept for a July release and M714A and M714Y should release soon (may be next month). Therefore, these again may not be Meizu S but another Meizu phone named Meizu E2, which reportedly is being launched next month with MediaTek Helio P25 processor on board.

The 3C certification of M714A and M714Y also shows that they will come with 18W fast charge and M714Y will run on YunOS while OS of M714A may be Android based.
